Fails to meet criteria of WP:POLITICIAN. Suggest redirect to election article. Arbor8 (talk) 15:39, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep Clearly fulfills the first criterion of WP:POLITICIAN: "1.Politicians...who have held...sub-national (statewide/provincewide) office" e.g Head of the Rhode Island Police and Doherty also fills the second criterion "Major local political figures who have received significant press coverage". A major party nominee for congressional office qualifies and also was the Head of the Rhode Island State Police and was also the State of Rhode Island's Commissioner of Public Safety, so is clearly both an important and influential politician in Rhode Island. The article should be kept as Brendan Doherty is a notable Rhode Island politician who is also the Republican nominee for the Rhode Island's 1st congressional district in the United States House of Representatives elections, 2012. So aswell as being the Head of the Rhode Island Police, Commissioner of Public Safety for Rhode Island and the Republican Nominee for a congressional seat in Rhode Island I believe that this article should be allowed to stay on wikipedia due to notability.Slytherining Around32 (talk) 16:49, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep Candidate of a major party for a US House seat and google news search yields plenty of significant coverage--William Thweatt Talk | Contribs 20:05, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep while I'll note that being a major party candidate for US congress is not a reason to keep this, he does seem to have achieved sufficient notability to meet WP:GNG for example here. Valenciano (talk) 13:59, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
